Ivy, 2010
Bridal photo session
Location: Bamboo Village, Vancouver
Inspired by Asian poster art of the 1930’s combined with Ivy’s classic features, I was excited at the opportunity to create out of these elements an image that expressed a fresh perspective on the modern bridal photo session. When I first approached the owner of a Chinatown curio shop with the concept of photographing a traditionally-dressed bride on his premises, he seemed very doubtful. However, soon after meeting the lovely bride-to-be, the shopkeeper had absolutely no hesitations; Ivy had won him over with her grace and charm. Brimming with ornately-carved Chinese furniture, statues, and décor, the shopkeeper’s dimly lit showroom became a fitting backdrop for the creation of this unique portrait. Although the photo session lasted for about an hour, the results convey a visual and sentimental impression that will truly transcend time.
